Dear Parents and Carers,
As we wrap up Term 1, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a busy, productive, and exciting start to 2024 at Sunshine College. From academic achievements to extracurricular activities, we have seen students embrace opportunities for growth and engagement across all areas.
Here’s a quick overview of what’s been happening:
Our students have been busy working on their academic skills and developing their talents. Teachers have spent the first few weeks gathering important information about student progress, which will be used to tailor teaching programs to ensure that every student reaches their full potential.
We were thrilled to host our first family event, welcoming the families of our Rugby Academy students. It was fantastic to meet some new families and to reconnect with others. We also hosted the Year 7 Parent BBQ, which was a wonderful opportunity for our new Year 7 families to meet one another and staff in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
Our students have excelled in various extracurricular activities this term. The Athletics Carnival on March 27th was a highlight, with students competing in a fun and competitive environment. Although the weather didn’t always cooperate, it was a fantastic day and a great display of school spirit. A special congratulations to the winning Red House!
Our students also showed great determination and skill at the Keilor Division Championships, where we saw several top performances. Well done to all involved!
Additionally, we’re excited to announce that in Term 3, Sunshine College will be hosting the Australian Ballet for a week-long dance program. This opportunity is open to all students and will offer a range of dance styles beyond just ballet.
On the development front, our students played an important role in shaping the future of our North Campus. A small group of students, along with staff, met with Law Architects to begin work on the design of our new campus masterplan. The students provided valuable insights and highlighted both the strengths and areas for improvement on campus. Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved in the design process.
We also welcomed our new student, staff, and parent members to the Sunshine College School Council during our Annual General Meeting. We are excited to work with these new members as we continue to strengthen the school community.
As we look towards the remainder of the year, it’s important to highlight the significant impact of consistent attendance on student success. Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to stay engaged and succeed academically. We ask parents and carers to continue supporting good attendance habits and to ensure that their child’s education remains a priority.
Term 1 concludes on Thursday, March 28th, with an early finish at 12:36 pm. We hope you enjoy the break and take time to rest and recharge. We are excited to return for Term 2 on Monday, April 15th, and look forward to the many opportunities and events that the next term will bring.
Thank you to all our parents, carers, and staff for your ongoing support and involvement in making Sunshine College a vibrant and nurturing learning environment. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone back for another productive term.
Warm regards,
Jodie Parsons
Co-College Principal
